1. What is the purpose of Boxes of Hope
- As a result of the earthquake that took place in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on January 12, 2010, thousands of people have lost their homes, and their livelihoods. Boxes of Hope seeks to supply couple of months worth of necessities for as many people as possible in Port-au-Prince. We hope to make a small, Gospel-centered change in the lives of the people affected by the earthquake. Our goal is to raise 1000 boxes by the end of February.
2. What are the different ways to get involved?
- Pray for the people of Haiti.
- You and/or your family could participate in the Boxes of Hope program by supplying a box filled with necessary goods.
- You could donate financially to pay for our team to make a box.
- You could donate money to cover the shipping cost ($16/container)

4. What is the dimension for the suitcase/box/container?
- The dimension for the suitcase is airline size. The rule or formula for the maximum size bag that can be checked onto an airline as regular baggage is very simple.
- (Length + Width + Height) must total 70 inches or less.
- Weight is not a factor for us since we are shipping all the suitcases together.
- Most suitcases you buy at the store have a total of 62inches or less.
5. How long will the project last?
- The project ends on February 28, 2010
6. Do the materials have to be new?
- We prefer for the items to be new.
7. Can you give more details regarding the shipping cost.
- Actual container cost about $6,000 from Maryland to Port-au-Prince. Due to the current situation, we will be shipping it through Dominican Republic. Below are other cost involved in shipping.
- We will be sending two containers. One container holds about 600 plastic bins.
- Cost to pick up from different locations (house, churches, etc)
- Delivery from different location (Chicago, Maryland, Georgia. We have to rent delivery truck to deliver them to one location)
- Cost in Haiti to deliver them to related Churches
- There may be customs. It can cost anywhere between $3000 - $10,000. We have been told that Haitian government have temporarily eliminated customs.
- So far, only about 20% of the people donated money for shipping. We estimate about 20-50% to pay for the shipping
8. What are the items we can put in the container
- Below is a list of preferable items to consider. Each person putting the box together has the freedom to create it as he/she desire.
